Project: Economy of Excess (Frivolous)

Reclaimed textiles, deadstock fabric, discarded furniture components, found objects, plywood, offcut fabric

This project takes the form of a constructed environment built entirely from reclaimed and surplus materials, using maximalist visual codes to interrogate how aesthetic systems produce value. Saturated color, layered textiles, and decorative excess obscure the material origins of the work, complicating assumptions about sustainability, ethics, and desirability. By borrowing the visual language of abundance and luxury, the installation exposes how systems of taste can override material truth. Sustainability becomes present but unreadable, folded into a visual economy that prioritizes affect over accountability. The work asks how easily excess can be aestheticized—and what forms of labor, extraction, or waste are concealed in the process.
